Shaw and Partners raises $200k for charity Foundation27 Jun 2019

The Shaw and Partners Foundation has today announced that it has raised $200,000 for charity from the activity of its annual Foundation Institutional Day. Since its inception in 2015, the Shaw and Partners Foundation has raised and donated over $2.25 million for Australian based charities.

As its largest annual fundraiser, the Foundation Institutional Day sees all brokerage generated through institutional trades (on a nominated day) donated to the staff members’ charity/charities of choice. Yesterday marked the 4th anniversary of the initiative, where the funds raised were donated in a 50/50 split to the Australian Stockbrokers Foundation and the Australian Fund Managers Foundation. These two bodies support a myriad of smaller not for profits including the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Lou’s Place Women’s Refuge, Odyssey House, Mission Australia and Second Bite.

The initiative provides a platform for pooling resources across the Australian Financial Services industry; designed to encourage a collaborative and community focussed approach to giving. By arming our industry with the platform and resources required to support two of the Financial Services industry’s major charity bodies, we aim to support charities to find answers to major social challenges and to drive their own solutions.

The Shaw and Partners Foundation is committed to an engaged and creative approach to philanthropy, focussing on providing support to charities that have the potential to be sustainable, scalable and transformative across its areas of influence; mental health, education and a social inclusion. The money raised from the annual Foundation Institutional Day affords the beneficiary charities with the opportunity to achieve their sustainable development goals, allowing their various successful projects to be upscaled more rapidly.

Shaw and Partners Head of Equities, Mike Ryan said “Collaboration is an essential component in all of our Foundation’s initiatives, and particularly our annual Institutional Foundation Day where we rely entirely on the generous support of our clients. For the Shaw and Partners Foundation, philanthropy isn’t simply about writing cheques. It is about being engaged and using the resources available to us to galvanise people to do things that haven’t been done before.”

A nexus of collaboration and philanthropic entrepreneurship ensures a level of sustainability across the Shaw and Partners Foundation’s various initiatives, so that we can continue to adopt an innovative approach to giving and to provide financial assistance and support to a multitude of community organisations.
