Bittersweet ending for Erebus at Bathurst News09 Oct 2022

Boost Mobile Racing powered by Erebus drivers Brodie Kostecki and David Russell narrowly missed out on their second podium together, finishing fourth in the 62nd running of the Bathurst 1000.

Meanwhile, Will Brown and Jack Perkins secured 10th, followed closely by Richie Stanaway and Greg Murphy’s wildcard entry in 11th.

With all co-drivers starting the race, Murph got away well from 4th, while Jack and Dave lined up side-by-side in 9th and 10th respectively.

It was a fairly chaotic start with the Safety Car deployed six times in the first 57 laps, the first of which was on the opening lap between Turns 1 and 2, when Jack was spun in front of the field.

Jack limped back to the pits and gained his lap back during the second Safety Car on lap 5, when all hell broke loose at the Chase.

Experience outweighed a hot-headed Zane Goddard, when the #5 driver tried to go down the inside of Murph, taking out two cars completely on the rejoin.

Despite no driver radio in the #51, Murphy/Stanaway made it as high as 2nd during the race, though Jake Kostecki collected their car on lap 61 and sent them a lap down. They eventually got the lap back, and with 19 laps to go, an eighth Safety Car was deployed.

Brodie pit for fuel and tyres from 2nd, and on the rejoin was impeded by the recovery vehicle. Unable to make it to the control line before the #25, it forced the #99 driver to lose his spot to Chaz Mostert, and become under threat by Cam Waters.

Waters snuck by with 15 laps to go, Brodie dropping off the podium and back to 4th. He led the Boost Mobile drivers home with Will and Richie finishing in P10 and P11 respectively.

Will and Brodie will return to the track in just over two weeks for the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500, 28 - 30 October.
