Stockbroking and advisory firm Shaw and Partners has made two new hires for its equity research team, adding some experienced names to their ranks.

Phil Pepe will head up emerging industrial companies research for the firm and will join the firm from Blue Ocean Equities, where he ran the industrials research.

Pepe has 25 years experience in both buy and sell side roles at Blue Ocean, Deutsche Bank and JC Capital Partners.

Shaw and Partners announced his appointment on Tuesday, alongside that of Kristian Stella, who joins the company’s Melbourne office.

Stella will cover emerging resources companies, bulking up the team that already includes Andrew Hines and Michael Clark.

Stella has 15-plus years experience in the mining industry, having held senior roles at Newcrest Mining and Syrah Resources.

Both recruits will report to Hines, who is head of research, having taken on the role last year after 25 years’ experience spanning Morgan Stanley, CBA Equities and Evans & Partners.

Earlier this month Shaw brought back ex-CommBank and Goldman Sachs operative George BouAntoun to its corporate finance team, after a short stint at 360 Capital-backed Cambridge Investment Partners.
