For the second year running, Shaw and Partners is excited to partner with Australian Surf Life Saving Ironman Champion, Shannon Eckstein, as the major presenting partner and headline sponsor of the Shaw and Partners Shannon Eckstein Ironman Classic. The inaugural edition was established in 2019 to mark Shannon’s retirement from the sport.

This year, the event will be held on Friday 14 and Saturday 15 February at BMD Northcliffe Surf Life Saving Club and is set to attract competitors from all over the country, showcasing one of Queensland’s most iconic volunteer movements, Surf Life Saving.

Shaw and Partners' involvement in the series as the premier presenting partner has allowed the event to offer a $85,000 cash pool and equal prize money of $20,000 for both the Men’s Open and Women's Open winners.

The Shannon Eckstein Ironman Classic offers the same format of a traditional surf carnival; a 10-12 minute race combining the four main disciplines of surf life saving into a single race; swimming, board paddling, ski paddling and running. A field of sixteen athletes compete against each other, with the first eight qualifying for the final. 

A series of races will be held over the two days to crown the winning Ironmen and Ironwomen:

• Open Male & Female Dash for Cash Iron Eliminators
• Open Mixed Board Rescue ‘Dash for Love’

Saturday 15 February 2020

• Under 15 & U17 Round 1 & 2 and Finals
• Open Male & Female Round 1 and Finals

The 2019 Shaw and Partners Shannon Eckstein Ironman Classic was won by Shaw and Partners brand ambassador Ali Day, who took the win over brothers Shannon and Caine Eckstein in the open men’s race. Lana Rogers from Noosa took out the open ironwoman title.
