Shaw and Partners takes on new sponsorship of the North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club Surf Rowing Boats News18 Nov 2019

Shaw and Partners is pleased to extend its sponsorship of the North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club Youth Division by taking on an additional sponsorship of the club’s Surf Rowing Boat Competition. We have also extended our original sponsorship by signing a three-year extension until October 2022.

Shaw and Partners came on board as a principle sponsor of the North Bondi SLSC in October 2015 and has continued to expand its involvement in the Club’s activities in the four years that have since followed.

The North Bondi SLSC is one of the Surf Life Saving movement's foundation clubs, opening its doors in 1906. It boasts a long and glorious history of vigilance and service on Bondi Beach as well as an

enviable track record in surf competition.

Shaw and Partners CEO, Earl Evans said surf life saving was one of the most important aspects of coastal Australian life and that Shaw and Partners was pleased to be supporting the surf life saving movement.

Surfboat rowing is arguably as iconic as the all Australian lamington and has been a part of our vibrant beach culture since 1908. Before the days of speedboats, lifesavers would row wooden long boats out through the surf to rescue stranded swimmers. The sport of Surf Boat Rowing started as a way for surf life saving crews to stay sharp for rescues, however these days it’s purely for competition.

The majority of Australian surf life saving clubs have at least one surf boast rowing crew. The competition period runs throughout the spring and summer months, with the season ending in early April with the National Titles, known fondly by the surf boat community as the ‘Aussies’.

Shaw and Partners is sponsoring both the male and female NBSLSC crews. A crew is made up of five members; four rowers and a sweep. The role of the sweep is to steer the boat from the back, using a long oar. The remaining four crew members have one oar each – and their task is to haul the boat through the swell.

Commenting on the synergies between Shaw’s major business and the new Surf Rowing Boat partnership, CEO Earl Evans said excellence in advice and working within a client’s risk profile is a major focus for Shaw and Partners Private Wealth.

“Risk management is important both in investment and on our busy beaches. Bondi Beach is a focal point for Sydney residents as well as thousands of domestic and international visitors who come here to the city every year, so it is important that we invest in the training of our young lifesavers and surf rowing boat crews to minimise the risks that surf goers face.”

Today, the club is one of Australia's largest surf clubs, with more than 2000 members and boasting one of the newest and most advanced life saving facilities on the Australian coastline.
