Over the week end, Shaw and Partners Race Team member Michael Booth had to call on all his experience in tough racing conditions to become the first ICF Stand Up Paddling World Champion in the long distance.
The inaugural ICF Stand Up Paddling World Championships were held in Qingdao, China and saw over 250 athletes participate including the very best stand up paddlers from around the globe.
Michael looked to put his stamp on the race from the very start but it took him well into the final circuit of the three-lap race to see off the challenge of Hasulyo brothers, Bruno and Daniel. Michael took out the win in 01:37:23.
Michael’s latest victory adds to his already impressive run of previous results. Michael has just recently won the Euro Tour SUP Championships and is the first athlete to hold both the ICF and ISA World SUP Championships titles at the same time. He’s also a three-time Australian Champion and the current leader of the APP World Tour long distance which concludes in Las Palmas De Gran Canaria in December.
Michael Booth has been a member of the Shaw and Partners Race Team since its launch in early 2018 and is fast earning his place as one of the best and most respected SUP paddlers of our time.
Michael also competes in ocean surf ski racing. He will test his skills at the famous Perth Doctor downwind in November where he races together with Shaw and Partners Race Team members Cory Hill, Rachel Clarke and Mackenzie Hynard.
