Shaw and Partners Race Team Member Cory Hill wins “The Doctor” Ocean Surf Ski Race in Perth News25 Nov 2019

The Shaw and Partners WA Race Week concluded in Perth last Saturday with the famous downwind race “The Doctor”.

“The Doctor” – named after the sea breeze that brings relief on hot days to the central districts of Perth – is currently the biggest ocean downwind paddling race in the world, attracting ocean paddlers from all over the globe.

With a prize pool of $100,000 on offer this year, the Shaw and Partners WA Race Week saw a record participation. Over 500 paddlers converged on the Western Australian capital to compete in the annual epic ocean surf ski paddling event from Rottnest Island to Sorrento Beach SLS Club, covering 27 kilometres in open ocean waters.

This year, Shaw and Partners Race Team member Cory Hill showed once again why he is considered one of the greatest ocean paddlers, completing the race in 1:35:18.  With three straight Doctor wins and four in total, Cory’s victory adds to his impressive run of results. Just recently, Cory brought the gold home to Australia at the World Surfski Series “Dragon Run” in Hong Kong, as well as a second place at the 2019 Maui Jim Molokai Challenge in May.

Cory finished the race ahead of Nicholas Notten and Sean Rice while Shaw and Partners team members Michael Booth and Mackenzie Hynard concluded in sixth and eighth respectively.

In the women’s category, Shaw and Partners brand ambassador Danielle McKenzie claimed her first Doctor win in a time of 1:47:16 ahead of Georgia Laird and 2019 Molokai Champion Jordan Mercer.

Shaw and Partners extends its congratulations to Cory Hill and all Shaw and Partners athletes for their formidable achievements at The Doctor 2019.
