Shaw and Partners gets behind the WNBL Adelaide Lightning News29 Nov 2019

Shaw and Partners has signed a sponsorship with the highly successful Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) team Adelaide Lightning to broaden its brand reach in South Australia.

The sponsorship deal involves front-of-jersey sponsorship and digital advertising which will appear courtside and on-court advertising in the 8,000-seat Titanium Security Arena in the Adelaide suburb of Findon. The arena is the home stadium for Adelaide Lightning.

The sponsorship will provide Shaw and Partners with valuable exposure in Adelaide, where basketball has a very strong following. Stephen Martiensen and Matthew Norman, both Senior Investment Advisers at Shaw and Partners, brokered the sponsorship deal.

“The Lightning was a grand finalist in this year’s WNBL competition and along with the national women’s team, the Opals, winning second place at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup last year and third place at the recent FIBA Women's Asia Cup, it is a perfect time to be supporting basketball.  The popularity of women’s basketball in Australia and Adelaide has never been higher.”

“This is an ideal time for Shaw and Partners to partner with the Adelaide Lightning and support the players through this sponsorship deal,” said Mr Martiensen.

Shaw and Partners Adelaide office opened in 2015, establishing the firm’s footprint in the state. Shaw and Partners now employs 30 advisers in its Adelaide branch, which is managed by SA State Manager Stuart Cross.

“Shaw and Partners is proud to have its name behind The Adelaide Lightning,” added Matthew Norman.

“In addition to its recent victories, the Lightning won the WNBL Championship five times in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1998 and 2008. Three members of the Adelaide Lightning team, Steph Talbot, Lauren Nicholson and Nicole Seekamp, are members of the Opals squad, the Australian women's national basketball team. The Lightning has made huge strides in building a strong South Australian following.”

The Adelaide Lightning was established in 1993 and its popularity has soared since its success in the 1990s. Bruce Spangler, Chairman of the Adelaide Lightning, said: “I am delighted to have such a preeminent and progressive national organisation as Shaw and Partners showing such a solid commitment to women’s sport.  The Adelaide Lightning are looking forward to working with the team at Shaw and Partners”.
