On Thursday last week, Canberra based Shaw and Partners Private Wealth Advisers, Nicole Callan and David Maloney hosted 80 female clients and prospects for dinner and drinks at the National Gallery of Australia. The “Women Together” networking event marked the second in a series of events aimed at connecting, empowering and encouraging like-minded women in business.
Guests heard from pro-surfer Layne Beachley AO. Layne is widely regarded as the most successful female surfer in history; the only surfer, male or female, to claim six consecutive world titles (1998-2003). Layne then went on to win a 7th world title in 2006 and only just last week, Layne claimed her 8th world title.
In her address, Layne encouraged the women to unpack how they define success and asked them to think about if and how their self-worth is wrapped up in their definition of success. Additionally, she spoke about the importance of having the freedom to fail - something which she credits her personal success to. It is understanding that failure is part of success that was one of the key takeaways from Layne’s incredibly well received address.
