Cate Campbell OAM speaks at the third "Women Together" event in Sydney News31 May 2019

Yesterday evening, Shaw and Partners Senior Investment Advisers Angela Holstein and Shayne Gilbert hosted the third event in the "Women Together" series, which aims to guide women to manage and grow their wealth and build financial independence.

Guests heard from Olympic Gold Medallist Cate Campbell OAM. Cate spoke about her "Lessons from the Black Line" - adversity, sacrifice, overcoming the fear of failure and what it takes to be at the top of your field. For Cate, excellence is underpinned by six interconnected concepts; bravery and challenge, kindness and consideration, honesty and authenticity. Cate’s personal checklist that drives her to reach excellence is rooted in asking herself three questions. Have I been brave? Have I been kind? Have I been honest?

From her address, it is clear that Cate is always looking for the good in life. After rebuilding herself from a forgettable Olympic campaign in Rio in 2016, Cate is looking towards Tokyo 2020 with confidence and not fear, having banished her mental demons from Brazil.

Additional guest speakers included Shaw and Partners CIO, Martin Crabb who gave a general market overview and Rochelle Courtenay, Share The Dignity Founder and The Australian Financial Review Woman of Influence for 2018.

Forty men and women were brought together over a three course dinner, with the task to create purposeful connections. A mission accomplished by all reports.

For women, achieving financial wellbeing can be more of a challenge than that of their male counterparts; balancing systemic and structural issues including but not limited to the gender pay gap and a superannuation system that favours full time workers over parents that take parental or carers leave. Women can benefit enormously by simply engaging with their finances.

Angela and Shayne are committed to helping women effectively manage their personal finances to achieve their full economic potential. They adopt a simple philosophy that women empower women, delivering on their mantra by connecting, collaborating with and educating the women in their respective networks.
