Shaw and Partners brand ambassador Ali Day wins the inaugural Shannon Eckstein Ironman Classic 26 Mar 2019

On Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd March 2019, Northcliffe beach on the Gold Coast was buzzing with energy at the inaugural Shaw and Partners Shannon Eckstein Ironman Classic.

With a $90,000 prize pool at stake over the course of the weekend, athletes came from far and wide to partake in the event that marked Eckstein’s retirement from the sport.

Shannon Eckstein has consistently produced extraordinary performances, securing more series, world championships and Australian titles than any other Ironman in history, across his much-celebrated career.

Shaw and Partners brand ambassador, Ali Day took the win over Shannon in the open men’s race. The two were neck and neck for much of the race, before Day made a breakaway in the final sprint up the beach, securing the $20,000 winner’s cheque (for a meagre 15 minutes work!). Shannon Eckstein placed second followed by brother Caine Eckstein in third. Lana Rogers (Noosa) took out the open ironwoman title.

When asked how the Shannon Eckstein Ironman Classic concept came about, Co-CEO Earl Evans referred to key parallels between the required skills and competencies of top ironmen and ironwomen athletes and Shaw and Partners Financial Services' offering, by suggesting that both equally stand for and practice, preparation and execution.  The concept “...ignited energy for the Shaw and Partners brand, putting firepower behind what Shaw and Partners Financial Services is known for; performance, innovation and opportunity,” he said.

After making its mark in the Ironman competition calendar as the richest ironman race in the country, athletes already have the 2020 season in their sights. Shaw and Partners looks forward to partnering with Shannon to headline next year’s series.
